INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR INDY V1.1.0 Program updates are free at this time. Image updates are installed differently (the instructions are not given here) and have to be purchased. REQUIRED RESOURCES: Same as the Indy you now use except that the amount of hard disk space required has increased to 2 MB. GETTING ACCESS TO THE UPDATE FILE(S): Send an e-mail to invoices@rmwenterprises.com that states your full name and the fact that you "want to update to the most recent Indy program that is on our web site". When we receive your e-mail we will send you a username and password that will allow you to access the file(s) that you need to download. Please allow us 12 business hours to respond to you with the information. DOWNLOAD PROCEDURE: 1. On the "Indy Updates and Patches" web page, click on the hyperlink (text with a line under it) titled "Indy v1.1.0 Update (2 MB)". A dialog box titled "Enter Network Password" will be displayed. 2. Enter the username and password that we e-mailed to you in the appropriate boxes. The username and password are case-sensitive. (An "A" is different than an "a".) Be sure to enter them exactly as we supplied them to you. Do not surround the username or password with any quote (') or double quote (") characters. 3. A new web page will appear listing two hyperlinks. The topmost one will download the file(s) for you. The one at the bottom will take you back to the web page that you came from when you finish the download. 4. Click on the topmost hyperlink. A "File Download" dialog box will appear. 5. The dialog box has two check boxes displayed on it. One says "Run this program from its current location" and the other one says "Save this program to disk". Make sure the "Save this program to disk" check box is checked then click on the "OK" button. 6. The "Save As" dialog box will appear. Use the controls in the dialog box to navigate to any directory that you want to place the downloaded file(s) into. It is not necessary to place them in any particular place since what you are downloading is an Installer program that will ask you later where you want the new version of Indy to go. Click the "Save" button when you have finished selecting a directory. Note that the name of the file that you are downloading is "install.exe". You could, for simplicity sake, save the "install.exe" file to your desktop and delete it at the end of these instructions (when the installation is complete). To save the file to your desktop: In the "Save As" dialog box, near the top, is a smaller box labelled "Save in:". Near the right side of that same box is the down-arrow symbol. Click on the down-arrow. Additional information should be displayed. One of the additional items should be titled "Desktop". You may have to scroll the list of items to see it. You scroll the list by clicking on the vertical bar that is shown to the right of the list and, while you are still holding the mouse button down, dragging the mouse up or down. When you find the item titled "Desktop", click once on it. By clicking on it, you've asked your web browser to save the file to your desktop. Click the "Save" button. 7. The download progress will be indicated by a progress bar on the screen. When the download is complete, you can close your web browser and go to step 8. 8. Using Windows Explorer or any program that lets you navigate to the file that you just downloaded, do so. When you get there, double click on the "install.exe" file that you just saved there. If you saved the file in step 6 to the desktop, all you need to do is find it on your desktop and double click it. 9. From this point on, the install process should look just like what you went through when you first installed Indy, with one exception. The exception is the screen titled "Choose Java Virtual Machine". When you first installed Indy, the installer program gave you a choice that you are not presented with now. You CAN NOT CHOOSE to "Install the Java 1.2.2 VM that was bundled into the installer". Since you installed the Java 1.2.2 VM last time, it is not necessary to do so again, so the installer that you double clicked on a short while ago does not give you that choice. The other reason that the Java 1.2.2 VM was not bundled with this installer is because it is relatively large and would make downloading program updates such as these very time consuming. So what do you select on this screen ? It depends: If you chose your own Java 1.2.2 VM when you installed the first time, do so again. It'll be listed in the box on this screen. If you chose the Java 1.2.2 VM that was bundled with the installer last time, you should see something that looks like (or is similar to): "C:\Program Files\IndyVersion1_0\jre\bin\java.exe" that you can choose. If its not shown in the box, and nothing else in the box has "Indy" in it, click on the "Search for More" button on this screen. Depending on how large your Hard Disk is, it can take a while to complete the search. A search on our 2 GB disk took about 3 minutes to complete. You can click on the "Stop Searching" button as soon as you see a line in the box that has "Indy" in it somewhere. If you did not install Indy into a directory with "Indy" in the name of the directory, you'll just have to remember which directory you installed Indy into and look for a subdirectory by the name "jre\bin\" and there should be a java.exe in it that you can choose. 10. Complete the rest of the installation as you did the first time. See the README_1_1_0.txt file after the installation is complete for more details about the new features that this version of the program provides. If you saved the "install.exe" file to the desktop in step 6, you can delete it from there now. If you have any questions, e-mail them to postmaster@rmwenterprises.com. Try to supply as much background information as you can in your message. We'll answer as many e-mails as it takes to make this update a success for you. Enjoy your new version of Indy ! 1/8/2
