INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR IMAGES DOWNLOAD --------------------------------------------------------------- Program updates are installed differently (the instructions are not given here). Windows users should skip section E. Macintosh OS X users should skip section D. SECTION A REQUIRED RESOURCES: ------------------- 1. The Hard Drive disk space required for this installation is noted in the parentheses that follow the names of the items that you are downloading from our web site. For example: Given that the line you see on our web site says "October 2006 Images Download (0.6 MB)", the space required for that download is 0.6 megabytes. 2. You must have upgraded your Indy program to at least version 1.3.1. You can tell what version of the Indy program you have by selecting "About" in the "Help" menu of the Indy program that you run. SECTION B GETTING ACCESS TO THE UPDATE FILE(S): ------------------------------------- The images are free for download if you have purchased the Indy program any time in the past - but you need a password to access them. Send an e-mail to our "postmaster@rmwenterprises.com" address to request the password for the images. Tell us your name and be sure to specify that you want the password for the WOOD magazine images. We will send you an e-mail within 12 business hours of validating your purchase. The e-mail that we will send you will contain a username and a password that will allow you to access the file(s) that you need to download. SECTION C COMMON DOWNLOAD PROCEDURE: ------------------- 1. On the "Indy Updates and Patches" web page, click on the hyperlink (text with a line under it) titled "October 2001 through December 20xx Better Homes And Gardens WOOD Magazine Images". A dialog box titled "Enter Network Password" will be displayed. 2. Enter the username and password that we e-mailed to you in the appropriate boxes. The username and password are case-sensitive. (An "A" is different than an "a".) Be sure to enter them exactly as we supplied them to you. Do not surround the username or password with any quote (') or double quote (") characters. 3. A new web page will appear listing many hyperlinks. The hyperlinks will be grouped by quarters of the year, the most recent quarters first. The first hyperlinks in any group have month names in their titles. The last hyperlink in any group has the words "Database Download" in it. If you are a Macintosh OS X user, your links follow the same pattern but they are listed farther down the page, after all of the Windows user links. There is a link at the very bottom of the web page that can return you to where you came from when you finish all of the downloads. The rest of the DOWNLOAD PROCEDURE section is split into two sections: One section details the rest of the procedure for a Windows computer, the other section details the rest of the procedure for a Macintosh OS X computer. SECTION D WINDOWS DOWNLOAD PROCEDURE ---------------------------------- 1. Click on the hyperlink that contains a month name. A "File Download" dialog box will appear. (It doesn't matter which month you download first but it's probably more logical to do them in the order that they are listed.) 2. The dialog box has two check boxes displayed on it. One says "Run this program from its current location" and the other one says "Save this program to disk". Make sure the "Save this program to disk" check box is checked then click on the "OK" button. 3. The "Save As" dialog box will appear. Use the controls in the dialog box to navigate to the directory that you want to place the downloaded file(s) into. You should put these files in the "images\wd" subdirectory of the directory that you installed Indy into. If this is the first time that you have ever updated your images, the "wd" folder may not exist, you may have to create it. If you went with the default selections when you first installed the Indy program, the default installation directory would be named something like "C:\Program Files\Indy". So putting it all together for the default case mentioned above, you should put these new image files in the "C:\Program Files\Indy\images\wd" directory. If you installed the Indy program into some other directory, just add "\images\wd" onto the name of that directory. Click the "Save" button when you have finished selecting a directory. Note that the name of the file that you are downloading will have a name like "wdmmyy.exe", where "mm" will be the number of the month and "yy" will be the last two digits of the year. (The file corresponding to October 2006 would be "wd1006.exe".) 4. The download progress will be indicated by a progress bar on the screen. 5. Repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 for the other files that have month names. 6. Repeat steps 1 and 2 (not 3) for the link that has the words "Database Download" in it. Remember, it's the last link in any group of links. 7. The "Save As" dialog box will appear. Use the controls in the dialog box to navigate to the directory that you want to place the downloaded file into. You should put this file in the directory that you installed Indy into. If you went with the default selections when you first installed the Indy program, the default installation directory would be named something like "C:\Program Files\Indy". Click the "Save" button when you have finished selecting a directory. Note that the name of the file that you are downloading will have a name like "wddbqnyy", where "n" will be the number of the quarter and "yy" will be the last two digits of the year. (The file corresponding to the fourth quarter of 2006 would be "wddbq406.exe".) 8. Repeat steps 1 through 7 for all of the groups. Stop when you reach a group that is older than the files you already have on your hard disk. (If you purchased an Indy CD that covers all of the issues up to December 2005 and you see that there are files on our web site for download for all of the 2006 issues, stop after you downloaded all of the files related to 2006. Downloading the files related to 2005 or prior years would be a waste.) 9. Using Windows Explorer or any program that lets you navigate to the files that you just downloaded, do so. When you get there, double click on one of the files that you downloaded. A program named "7Zip Self Extracting Archive" will start up in response to your double click. The 7Zip program will list the default folder that it will extract the files to. Click on the "Extract" button in the 7Zip dialog box to move the files to your directory. 10. Repeat step 9 for the other files you downloaded. 11. The download procedure is now complete. You must still run the "Update Image Database" function that is accessed through the Indy program though. Skip section E of this document and go to section F to finish the installation. SECTION E MACINTOSH OS X DOWNLOAD PROCEDURE ---------------------------------- 1. Click on a hyperlink in the Macintosh OS X section of the web page that contains a month name. The download will begin. Soon thereafter you should see the Stuffit Expander or another Macintosh program that extracts files automatically starting up. (It doesn't matter which month you download first but it's probably more logical to do them in the order that they are listed.) 2. Tell Stuffit Expander to put the download file on your Desktop, the place it wants to put all files by default, and then click on the Choose button. It'll put a folder with a name like "wdmmyy Folder" on your Desktop, where "mm" will be the number of the month and "yy" will be the last two digits of the year. (The file corresponding to October 2006 would create a folder named "wd1006 Folder".) 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other hyperlinks in the group that have month names. 4. Repeat steps 1 and 2 (not 3) for the link in the group that has the words "Database Download" in it. Remember, it's the last link in any group of links. This time, when Stuffit Expander asks you where you want to put the file, tell it to put it in the folder that you installed Indy into when you first purchased our program. If you responded with all of the default answers for that initial Indy installation, you would tell Stuffit to place the download file in the "Indy" folder that is in the "Applications" folder on your hard disk. If you installed Indy into some other folder, make the appropriate corrections. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 for all of the groups. Stop when you reach a group that is older than the files you already have on your hard disk. (If you purchased an Indy CD that covers all of the issues up to December 2005 and you see that there are files on our web site for download for all of the 2006 issues, stop after you downloaded all of the files related to 2006. Downloading the files related to 2005 or prior years would be a waste.) 6. Find one of the "wdmmyy Folder" folders you created on the Desktop and open it. 7. Drag all of the files that are inside it to the "images\wd" folder of the folder that you installed Indy into when you first purchased our program. If this is the first time that you have ever updated your images, the "wd" folder may not exist, you may have to create it. If you went with the default selections when you first installed the Indy program, the default installation folder would be named "Indy" and it would be inside the "Applications" folder. So putting it all together for the default case mentioned above, you should put these new image files in the "wd" folder that is in the "images" folder that is in the "Indy" folder that is in the "Applications" folder on your hard drive. If you installed the Indy program into some other folder, make the appropriate corrections. 8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for all of the other month name folders ("wdmmyy Folder"). 9. You can delete all of the downloaded files and folders from your Desktop now. 10. The download procedure is now complete. You must still run the "Update Image Database" function that is accessed through the Indy program though. Go to section F to finish the installation. SECTION F USING THE INDY PROGRAM TO UPDATE ITS IMAGE DATABASE --------------------------------------------------- 1. Read the "Updating the Image Database" section of the "IndyUserGuide.htm" file for reference purposes. 2. Start the Indy program the way that you normally do and select "Update Image Database" from the File menu. 3. A dialog box will appear asking you to name an update file. An update file is any file that originated in the download associated with a hyperlink titled "Database Download". Type in the name of the file. The file has the form "wddbqnyy.txt", where "n" will be the number of the quarter and "yy" will be the last two digits of the year. (The file corresponding to the fourth quarter of 2006 would be "wddbq406.txt". Note the filename ends in "TXT", not "exe" or "zip".) 4. Click on the "Update Now" button that is in the same dialog box. 5. You are completely done adding this quarter's images to Indy when the progress bar in the dialog box shows 100%. 6. Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5 for the other update files (for other files of the form "wddbqnyy.txt") that you downloaded. If you have any questions, e-mail them to postmaster@rmwenterprises.com. Try to supply as much background information as you can in your message. We'll answer as many e-mails as it takes to make this update a success for you. Please note that our web site has a demonstration of an actual images installation. You can find it at http://rmwenterprises.com/indyupdatesandpatches_WOOD.htm. Look for the phrase "Want to see a demo of a typical images installation?" at the end of the first section on that web page. Enjoy your new WOOD Magazine article images ! 01/03/10
